Join award-winning photographer Devin Allen and several of his literary peers for a discussion and book signing of his first book, A Beautiful Ghetto.

On April 2015, Baltimore erupted in mass protests in response to the death of Freddie Gray while in police custody. Photographer Devin Allen’s work went viral and became iconic imagery of the event. His work quickly landed on the cover of Time magazine, making him one of the first amateur photographers to earn the distinction. In this collection of stunning photographs, Allen documents the uprising as he strives to capture the life of his city and the people who live there. He shows a world of love, courage, struggle, and hope. Each photo reveals the personality, beauty, and spirit of Baltimore and its people, as his camera complicates popular ideas about “the ghetto.”

Devin Allen is a native of West Baltimore. His iconic image of the Baltimore Uprising became a Top 10 Cover of 2015 of Time magazine. His photographs have also appeared in New York Magazine, the Washington Post, the New York Times, CNN, BBC, NBC News, Aperture Magazine, and Yahoo!
