Celebrate May Day at Haymarket House
Enjoy an afternoon of camaraderie, delicious food (including vegetarian and vegan options), and refreshments as we celebrate May Day and our vibrant living tradition of resistance to tyranny, exploitation, and oppression. In this volatile political moment we are more grateful than ever for our Haymarket House community, and we look forward to gathering with you.
This event is a fundraiser for Haymarket House, so we ask folks who attend to register for a paid ticket and make an additional donation in order to support our ongoing work creating a vibrant home for culture, politics, and community in Chicago.
Activities include:
- Delicious food!
- Exclusive new Haymarket Books merch
- $25 used book dive--fill up a bag with books for $25!
- Yard games for all ages
- Music by DJ Mo Mami
- New Haymarket books for sale
- Conversation with folks from our radical Chicago community, a chance to debrief after the May 1st day of action!
Please register through Ticket Tailor if you plan to attend so we have an accurate headcount for food and refreshments. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.
This event is family friendly and will be held outside in the Haymarket House garden, weather permitting.

At Haymarket Books, we take inspiration and courage from our namesakes, the Haymarket Martyrs, who gave their lives fighting for a better world. Their 1886 struggle for the eight-hour day—which gave us May Day, the international workers’ holiday—reminds workers around the world that ordinary people can organize and struggle for their own liberation. These struggles—against oppression, exploitation, environmental devastation, and war—continue today across the globe.
