The Socialism Conference is a four-day conference bringing together thousands of socialists and radical activists from around the country to take part in discussions about social movements, Marxism, abolition, working-class history, and the debates and strategies for organizing today. Every year, the Socialism conference aims to be a place where activists can share lessons from their struggles—from the BDS campaign for Palestine to the fight for gender liberation, from strike organizing and support to the struggle to stop the destruction of the planet, the fight against racism, and more. Socialism 2025 took place in Chicago over July 4th weekend, July 3-6. Recordings from many sessions at Socialism 2025 will be released here. Socialism 2026 will take place in Chicago, September 4-7, 2026. Learn more: socialismconference.org

While immigration detention is central to Trump's mass deportation plans, the U.S. detention system has been growing for decades. In addition to private prison operators, a whole range of companies and local governments are cashing in. As detention capacity increases, so do webs of economic dependence – and stakeholders who advocate for locking up migrants.

What are the “rebel chores,” the everyday educational, political, and spiritual commitments, that make revolutionary lovers? Often dismissed, what is the right relationship between spirituality and liberatory struggle? Can one be revolutionary without being religious? Concentrating on her upcoming book, Confronting Counterinsurgency: Cop Cities and Democracy’s Terrors, as well as many of her other recent works, political theorist Joy James engages these and other questions in dialogue with the Highlander Center’s faith-based educator and researcher Adam Vander Tuig.

At the end of the last century, predictions about the destructive potential of the Y2K bug were everywhere. As the clocks ticked closer to the prophesied end-times, Capitalism—then in the rapturous throes of a global tech bubble—did what it does best: created a whole cottage industry of consultants dedicated not to preventing the apocalypse, but to ensuring the steady flow of profits. Join Leigh Claire La Berge as she dissects her time as one of these management consultants, offering an inside look at the absurd cultural and political economic consequences of Capitalism's singular focus on the bottom line.
