Haymarket Projects

Haymarket’s mission is to support struggles for social and economic justice through political education and community building. In line with this mission, Haymarket manages a vibrant community organizing and event space in Chicago, Haymarket House, the popular Haymarket Books Live event series and podcast, and the annual Socialism Conference.

Haymarket House

Haymarket House is a revolutionary community space in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood.

We host political, cultural, literary, and community events in our several events spaces, kitchen, library, and garden. We are committed to uplifting the work of writers, artists, thinkers, activists, educators, and everyday folks in the struggle for a better world.

Haymarket Events

Haymarket is proud to host a wide range of in-person and virtual events, including urgent political discussions, book launches, organizer roundtables, poetry readings, and more. We aim to bring people—in Chicago and around the world—together in community, to learn from one another and histories and practices of struggle for a better world.

Haymarket Audio

Haymarket Audio is the home for incisive and thoughtful podcasts by and for the left, brought to you by radical, independent publisher Haymarket Books—available wherever you listen to podcasts!

Writing Freedom Fellowship

The Writing Freedom Fellowship awards talented emerging and established poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers who have been impacted by the carceral system, recognizing them for their notable and necessary writing.

Writing Freedom has supported sixty writers since 2024.

Books Not Bars

Through Books Not Bars, we make our books available for free to people who are incarcerated.

In an effort to support those who are subject to the immense violence of the prison system, we work to connect people on the inside with radical books and opportunities for political education.

Support Haymarket's Work

In 2026, we’re celebrating 25 years of publishing “Books for Changing the World.” In those 25 years, we’ve helped build critical space and infrastructure for radical ideas and movements on the left to grow. That work of institution-building and popular political education has never been more necessary or more urgent. We need your help to continue to do this work.
